The building itself is really cool. It opened around 1960 and was run by The Mob...it stayed open for 2 seasons and was shut down because they couldn't afford to keep it open. The freeway (the I-10) was not built yet, so there wasn't a lot of traffic that far west. They ended up finding a lot of asbestos in the grandstands, so they never re-opened it.

Maureen...have you happened to watch the movie that was filmed there?!?!? I see it everynow and again on tv...they blow it up. I will have to get the movie title for you! :) This is a really neat picture.
